St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood survival rate from 20% when the hospital opened in 1962 to more than 80% today.
St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90%, and we won’t stop until no child dies from cancer.
St. Jude has increased the survival rates for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) from 4% before opening in 1962 to 94% today.
St. Jude is where doctors often send their toughest cases, because St. Jude has the world’s best survival rates for some of the most aggressive forms of childhood cancers.
St. Jude creates more clinical trials for cancer than any other children’s hospital and turns laboratory discoveries into lifesaving treatments that benefit patients – every day.

The daily operating cost for St. Jude is $2.2 million, which is primarily covered by individual contributors.
St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and from around the world.
On average, 7,800 active patients visit the hospital each year, most of whom are treated on an outpatient basis.
St. Jude staffs 77 inpatient beds and treats upwards of 280 patients each day.
St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute.
St. Jude patients are referred by a physician, and generally have a disease currently under study and are eligible for a current clinical trial.
St. Jude has 24 official partner sites in 17 countries in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, South America, the Eastern Mediterranean region and Asia.
More than 32,000 registered users from 160 countries have accessed Cure4Kids.org, an Internet-based distance learning initiative. In addition, St. Jude trains thousands of medical professionals around the world through consultations, faculty visits to St. Jude and Cure4Kids.org.
